ART JUNKY @ The Phoenix Brighton was my first fair of 2012 so I was pretty excited about it! After over a month of no fairs I was chomping at the bit to get back into "Welcome to my shop.." mode.

Despite there being a constant flow of peeps walking through the Phoenix, the general feel from stallholder was that no one was in a particularly spending mood. Completely understandable as I am also counting the pennies this month after all the festive expense (I didn't let myself look at other peoples goodies for fear of spending). Unfortunately, I didn't make a profit which was quite disappointing and I hope does not signify things to come...

I will hopefully make up for it this Saturday coming as I will be selling at the Makers Boutique Market @ the Unitarian Church, Brighton.

My new brooches raised a few smiles-I hope I can sell a few at Makers.

OK, I'm pretty pleased with myself this evening :) I was doodling and I decided to post this little pic up on Facebook to see if the brooch idea was 'liked'. I was! So I set about sewing this tiny fella. His teeny tiny legs were a bit of a faff but I'm really happy with the finished result.

Above are some special Hanging Love Hearts. Each one will have a brown label with 'Love' written on one side and 'To... With Love From...' on the other.

Here are two of the cutest characters I have ever made - Heart Bear & Hear Bunny! I adore these little chaps so much that I'd quite like to keep them all...but I can't, they're for you lovely lot ;-)
Each one is just bigger than a hand and it will have a similar brown label to the Hanging Love Hearts.

Here I am sporting my Foxy Love Brooches (plus sultry pose, ha). These look great on a jumper, coat or indeed dungarees (as in pic). Show someone they're 'Foxy' with this Foxy Love Brooch :-x

Hand full of hearts!!! These tiny hearts are going to be used on something soon............

Oops, I forgot alll about my last craft fair of 2011...Makers Boutique Christmas Market @ the Unitarian Church. I was INSIDE!!! :D I had a really fun last fair of the year. I think it was actually my most profitable Makers to date. I guess it was all those crimble shoppers after a special crafty one off goody.

Christmas Craft Fairs

Ok, so I know I was a little lax in blogging leading up to Christmas. I was SUPER DUPER BUSY! To prove it, here are some pic of a few of the fairs where I was selling the Little Things i Make(I had at least one craft fair every weekend leading up to crimble!!!)...

Beginning of December was the Makers Boutique Market @ the Unitarian Church. I was outside it was very chilly indeed. I might've frozen if it hadn't been for darling Hannah (one half of the MB organizing team) bringing me hot water bottles & tea :) Oh, and I may have had a cheeky mulled cider (or two). www.makersboutique.co.uk

Trying out my new crimble tree decoration display tree...Can you tell it was homemade?! A pack of chopsticks, lots of wire, Poundland battery operated fairy lights & an upside down plant pot. Blue Peter would be proud!

While in the taxi on my way down to the Unitarian Church, the taxi driver asked polite questions about the things I was selling that day, then he looked at the display tree balanced precariously in my lap, it's wiry branches scratching my face. He looked awkward and then said (with a tone of disgust), " How much are you charging for that thing!?"

haha! "Priceless" was my response.

Next up are some pictures of The Yard Market @ the Farmers Market in the lanes.

It was a really fun day! I had wrapped up warm (much like a 19th century north pole explorer) and had a great stall. This was my first time selling at The Yard and I was very excited about the novelty of having a roof on top of the table...It felt like my own little shop!!! "Welcome to my shop..."

It's such a great venue for stallholders and the fact that there's a cafe down at the end of the mews that sells yummy hot food & drink helps even more. www.theyardvintagemarket.blogspot.com

...Did I mention that I treated myself to this little guy? No? Well, I did!!

One of the organizers, Maxine, makes these little chaps by splicing dolls faces onto old retro ceramic cats&dogs. Pure genius & completely unique. I love my little 'Oddling' but I am getting mixed reviews when people come over to the flat and see it on my desk. My sister asked me to turn it so it faced the wall when she came to stay... Oh well, each to their own :D

SO many great vintage goodies to be found there. This glassware is most definitely on my 2012 wish list & who doesn't need a ceramic fist ornament in their life? ;-0

Mid December was the Craftaganza Christmas Market @ the Fabrica Gallery.

To get into the crimble spirit, I had made some Festive Tote Bags & special new Foxy Friends. It's a really great space to have a craft event & such brilliant location in terms of shoppers. The news had said it was supposed to be the 'busiest shopping day of the year' but I'm not so sure. I loved my stall positioning & I had fun sitting on a toasty radiator (like a school girl).

Short Sighted Bunnies & Crimble Card Designs

I went to have my bi yearly eye test before xmas and got myself a snazzy new pair of specs. I made these little Short Sighted Bunnies in honor of them. (I'm not actually 'short sighted'-I have an astigmatism...Just a little trivia about me :) They went down a treat!
These are my Crimble Card Designs for 2011. I was going to illustrate them but every time I sat down with my pen & paper, I couldn't settle on a Christmassy design. So....I thought I would make my special brooches into cards. Once printed, I stuck glittery crimble hats on each one (gold, silver and white hats). I loved them so much that I sent me & Ry one (from myself...coockoo! :D)

I have been a little behind in my blogging lately and seeing as it's now 2012(HAPPY NEW YEAR!!) I thought I would get cracking and let you all know what I've been up to over the past couple of months.

I seem to have been updating my Twitter & Facebook with all my Crimble Creations but neglecting my lovely blog (sorry blog!).

I made an army of 'Crimble Tree Bunnies & Bears'! All with happy faces, sparkly heart tummies and each with it's own personalized xmas label. They were a HUGE hit :D !!! It makes me happy to think of all the Christmas Tree's that they made their homes over the festive season...

*BRAND NEW CREATION* Here are the Crimble Brooches that I made especially for xmas. These are the first EVER badge/brooch creations & I adore them! In fact, I wanted to keep them all to myself, tehe. I did keep one, a red Bunny Crimble Brooch, and I wore her allll over the festive season.

I made some special new additions to my foxy family. Some snazzy new 'Red Foxy Friends' complete with snug scarves.

Look at these cheeky chaps I made from special fancy vintage material ! Both have gone to loving homes now (which makes me VERY happy). I'm going to search online for some more special material to make some more one-off Foxy Friends.

Ooh and look at the two 'Crimble Tote Bags' I made - perfectly designed for all those pressies!!!

ART JUNKY Indoor Market November 2011

Had a great (& exhausting) weekend at the ART JUNKY Indoor Market, Phoenix Arts Centre, Brighton. It coincided with my lovely little sis coming to Brighton for a weekend break away from the craziness of the first term of university in Bath :D So, I had my own little helper - or so I thought...By 3pm Saturday afternoon, her head was stuck in the white display case and she was asleep!!! (OK, ok, she had woken up at 4am to travel to see me... :D)

There were a real mixed bag of stalls. Lots of screen prints, textiles, ceramics & miles of bunting! As well as quite a few stalls of brick-a-brack ( I bought a few bits!!!).

My favourite stall holder was selling amazing subversive cushions. At first glance they looked very pretty and almost chintzy but then a closer look at the wording revealed that what you thought read 'Home Sweet Home' in fact read ' Homo Sweet Homo' :D Other slogans that caught my eye were 'Fuck This Shit', 'Big Fat Cock' and my personal favourite...'Soapy Tit Wank'! WOW! Possibly not something to give your Granny for Christmas though...

As I mentioned, there was literally miles of bunting on sale from different stall holders. I was thinking of making Christmas bunting as I have been asked to make some for my mother in law but after seeing how much selection there is out there, I think I'm going to give it a miss. The bunting scene is most definitely covered!

Once again my Pocket Pals were the big sellers. I'm putting making more on hold for a while as I'm concentrating on getting my Xmas stock ready. It's taking SO long & I haven't even designed my Crimble card yet - Eeeek!!!! On that note - I had better get back to sewing sequins on little bears :)

I had another wonderful Saturday at the Makers Boutique Market. I made a few special Halloween little things; Pumpkin Monkey Bears, Cute Ghosties & Zombie Dead Cats!!! The Zombie Cats went down a treat...I think I'm going to make more, after all a Zombie Cat is for life not just for Halloween :D

Good Companions Ale Festival & Craft Market Oct2011

I had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend at the Good Companions pub, Seven Dials, Brighton. I was contacted about taking part in a brewery event over the Saturday & the Sunday 12-6pm. It was a beautiful bright Autumnal weekend which made the selling of the Little Things i Make all the more enjoyable. Oh, and the Mulled Cider & Local Ales helped too... :D

Day#1. The Saturday also coincided with the Brighton Zombie Walk. I snapped this zombie troop on the way to Brighton Beach. They didn't buy a Fox...

The Saturday was a little slow & chilly but the good company (geddit) and warm beverages made the time fly.

Day#2. I got home on Saturday evening to find my brand new business cards waiting for me!! An American Psycho type conversation ensued with my pals (comparing design, font, stock etc...) *shudder* I really am THAT sad! Thank you MOO.com x

Had a really GREAT day at the Makers Boutique Market yesterday!!!! I think it was possibly one of the best ones so far - record sales for Little Things i Make :D

The biggest sellers were my Legless Two-Faces & Pocket Pals. I have a busy week of sewing ahead of me as I'm low on stock again now. Hooray! I sold a Lizard King and loved watching him being thrown around by his new owner. It warmed the cockles of my ❤ !!!

New Project Alert!

Leading up to Christmas (I apologise for the 'C' word!) I will be working on some special new Foxes!!! I'm very excited about this project as I get to use my sewing machine :) Hooray!

I'm going to try and find as much Orange, crazy, psychedelic material as possible and make special Foxes out of it. Not only will these Foxes not be made from the usual felt, they will also be a slightly different design. I have already started on some preliminary doodles...feedback appreciated.

PLATFORM Mixed Media Art Show

Over the past 2 weeks, I have had the pleasure of being involved in the great Mixed Media Art Show *PLATFORM* . I really enjoyed the experience as I had not previously exhibited my work in any kind of gallery space.

It ran down in the Fishing Quarter Gallery, Brighton, from the 8th-19th September. PLATFORM was the brainchild of fellow crafty person and talented jewellery designer Sarah 'Rock Cake' Meredith http://www.rockcakes.com/blog/ . She did a fantastic job of curating the show and it was a great success!

Along with myself & the Little Things i Make were the well known photographer & author (and hubby of Sarah) Kevin 'LomoKev' Meredith http://lomokev.com/.

Liw Banks http://www.etsy.com/people/liwbanks with her wonderful screen prints & rainbow owls and finally (Piers) Evershed Art http://creativeleviathan.com/home.html whose high impact paintings attracted a lot of attention.

PLATFORM subconsciously took on a very strong RAINBOW theme. I think the seed was sown when Rock Cake gocco printed the Private View invitations in a rainbow of colours.

The PLATFORM Private View went really well!!! We had lots of fun (wine & crisps helped), lots of interested guests who turned into great contacts :)

The Lizard King

Please bow and show your respect to His Royal Highness 'The Lizard King'!!! This is the first design of a creation I have been planning on making for some time. I wanted him to look like one of my doodles and I think i achieved that.

My future project will involve making a lizard which looks more like the ones featured in my 'Whimsical World Illustrations'. There will be a lot more work and I wont be using felt which will take me out of my comfort zone but I'm looking forward to starting.

Two-Faces!

These are my little TWO-FACES!!! These chaps have been a huge hit with fans of the Little Things i Make :-)

They are called 'two faces' because they have a different expression on each side. So far i have only made two expressions. The first is a GRUMPY chap but if you give it a tickle on his tummy then turn it over - it cheers right up and is HAPPY.

The second is a WIDE AWAKE cutie but if you're feeling sleepy, turn it over and it will SLEEP as well.

The Two-Faces above are my 'Leg-less' version. Each one has their own individual label. Their cute round shape makes them ideal to place on a shelf, couch or pillow.

The TWO FACES above are my 'Leggy' version.

Here are my little POCKET PALS. I am completely in love with these little tykes at the moment :) There are GRUMPY BEARS & HAPPY BUNNIES. I have been making them in all kinds of different colours, each one is individual.

I have customised individual labels for each of these chaps. The HAPPY BUNNIES labels introduce the bunny & let you know something that he/she likes(eg. Ice cream).

The GRUMPY BEARS also have labels but they say something he/she hates (eg. socks & sandals) :-)

They are great to give as little pressies or just keep them for yourself - collect them all!!!

I just spent an hour tearing bits out of lifestyle magazines - neatly compiling them into order of rooms then putting them into a file marked * HOW I WILL DECORATE THE HOUSE I WILL NEVER OWN... *

I think I'm avoiding sewing.

I have another crafty fair coming up on the 23rd July - the lovely Makers Boutique crew have arranged another Unitarian Church fair! :) I really need to get my Foxes finished, Foxy Key rings made, more Finger puppets done, I wanted to get a Little Things i Make banner printed in time & I have run out of plastic bags for my Illustrated Greeting Cards!!! Oof! I'm having a bit of a moan today - it all feels a little overwhelming...I REALLY need to motivate myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have set up an Etsy account but as yet haven't uploaded any pictures or details. Will someone please give me a kick up the ar*e! :-O

BHHS Summer Fete 2/7/11

Had a lovely day yesterday at the Brighton& Hove High School Summer Fete! There was lots of fun things going on. The kids sang, danced and played their instruments. There was a tug of war between the teachers and sixth form (helped by all the little kiddies too).

Juice fm's Andrea Fox was there - and she bought a Foxy Key-ring :) I sold them ALL!!! I'll definitely have to get sewing on a new batch for the Makers Boutique Market on the 23rd July!!!! Yeyyyyyy!!!! :D

I'm busy getting my stock up together for my next craft fair on the 2nd July at Brighton&Hove High School. As well as the usual size Foxes, I've started designing Foxy Key-rings & Finger Puppets!!!

I'm VERY excited about the finger puppets!!!! I'm going to make a pack of two - One Fox & One Rabbit :) I'll also design a background illustration to put behind the finger puppets, maybe a woodland illustration...?

I have a few more things in the pipeline for next month. I'm in discussions with a couple of lovely little independent shops who are interested in showcasing my Foxes :) More info to follow!

I am also in the process of arranging a few more craft events this summer (one in St Anns Well Gardens & the Brunswick Festival...)

Not surprising then she is ‘a bit weird’, has no social skills, finds it hard to hold down a normal job and has found it hard to make friends all her life; She has managed to side step confronting her social issues by ‘actually making friends’, in the form of little fabric characters, these manifest themselves in many different shapes, sizes and according to Lucy different religious and political views.

After surrounding herself with all these fictional characters, Lucy has become increasingly deluded, most of the ‘little things’ as Lucy herself calls them, in her mind, love her and hold her in the highest esteem, telling her they are willing to do any evil bidding she wishes.

In Lucy’s words…

‘I conclude that, one day, i will take over the world with the 'little things that i make' but until then, i'm quite happy to sit and watch telly with them all around me (cruelly, some of them don't have the best eyesight as i they're buttons are too small)’

So you see it is very important the ‘little things’ that Lucy makes are bought and not taken away, it is the only safe way to extract them from her person, thus freeing her from her self inflicted mental slavery.. which in turn is exactly how she sees these ‘little things’; as slaves, slaves ready to go to market!

Craftaganza Fun!

Craftaganza - extravaganza indeed!! :) What a great day! A HUGE thankyou to the organisers, especially the lovely ladies - Lisa, Steph & Zoe - it was a real delight to have been there.

Fabrica was the perfect venue to lure passers-by in to peruse all the crafty treats that the very talented creators of Brighton had to offer. I was inspired and also a little jealous of all the talent in the gallery - it was hard work fighting the temptation to buy lots of pretty, quirky treasures myself!!! There was such a wonderful selection of goodies, from yummy cupcakes & handmade jewelery to beautiful prints & wood-stump cushions! There was a constant tide of people passing through all day - which was splendid (but also a little exhausting!:o).

Everyone was so enthusiastic and lovely (i'm gushing now) & i am really looking forward to bumping into them all again at a craft fair soon (possibly Makers Boutique Market details to follow soon).

The lovely Craftaganza crew had pulled out all the stops making the day a bunting decorated success!!! I can't wait to hear what exciting, magical adventures they have in store for Brighton next. Watch this space... :)

Fabulous Foxy Fun @ the Makers Boutique Market!

Had a really lovely time at the Makers Boutique Market yesterday!!! I had been busy printing my whimsical cards and sewing new little wobbly legged foxy friends - it was great to see peoples reactions to them - especially my Illustrations. I had printed some cards of my 'Seaside Postcard Project' from Uni that featured my wonderful Grannie Pearl (i made sure i told everyone that showed an interest - she will be chuffed!)

I had acquired some great new perspex exhibition stands (thanks Kallkwik) that looked great on my stall. I'm going to make a 'little things i make' banner to go on the table & little labels for the next market :-D You can see the labels i made quickly yesterday morning ( i do like leaving things until the last minute).

I had a great time chatting to all the talented crafty people selling their wares. I have some exciting new projects on the horizon with the lovely & awesomely talented Sarah Meredith,Rock Cakes http://www.rockcakes.com/ a Brighton based jewellery designer. WATCH THIS SPACE FOR MORE DETAILS!!!

I'm also going to be taking part in the Craftaganza Market @ Fabrica, 26th March http://brightoncraftaganza.wordpress.com/ which was confirmed yesterday - Hooray! :-)

The next Makers Boutique Market will be held @ the Unitarian Church in the North Lanes area of Brighton, 16th April - looking forward to more soft jazz, cupcakes and tea while unleashing my little things on the people of Brighton!
I had an email this morning about The Brighton Trading Fair @ The Marina, weekend 16-17th April - it's not confirmed yet but it looks promising...

I wanted to include a picture i took of my foxes in an incomplete ZOMBIE state :-0 It's OK though, don't worry, they are all better now!!! tehehe

Here is a pic of a Fox i was commissioned to make for the Financial Director at Kallkwik Print&Design, Anthony. He has since told me that this particular Foxy friend has been up to all sorts of mischief in his daughter's bedroom, rearranging her toys while she sleeps...It must be the magic dust i sprinkle over them!!! :-D

I had a lovely time @ The Makers Boutique 'Valentine's Market' which was held at St Nicholas Church, Dyke Rd., Brighton. It was great to be around such a creative bunch of people (and to eat tea & cake all day!)

These are a few little creatures that i am mucking around with these days...My Whimsical World is definitely expanding!

I'm going to design some new greeting cards as well as try to make a couple of these chaps. I think I'm going to start experimenting with beans or lentils to fill their lanky limbs. I want them to be more malleable and tactile. ( I will still be making more Foxes as well!)

The Christmas Fair @ Davigdor Infant School went well. I thought it would be a lot quieter because of the horrid weather but i ended up almost reaching the same takings as BHHS.

I had made 7 more foxes over the week and i'm very glad i did beacuse i sold 5!!! They definitely attracted most of the attention. I had lots of nice comments and people asking if my stuff was available to buy online - I really need to sort out a website next year!

Ry helped me set up again but i was on my todd for the rest of the day. It makes me laugh when i leave Ry looking after the stall - he looks so uncomfortable. It also makes me smile to think that people may be wondering if he makes all the little things :) Tehe.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR (#1)

I had such a wonderful morning at BHHS on Saturday!! I was really nervous at the beginning as i wasn't sure how it was going to go. My initial worry was just about breaking even but i was pleasantly surprised how well i did over the 2 1/2 hours.

Everyone seemed to love my Snazzy Foxes but the big sellers were the Small Bears (£5) and the Bear Keyrings(£2.50). There was a group of girls that seemed to keep bringing their friends back to buy things. It was a lovely feeling!

I had lots of fun & THANKU to all the people who came to see me and the little things i make!!!!!!

I am going to be doing another Christmas Craft Fair this Saturday (more details to follow). I'm going to go and start sewing furiously to replenish my stock for the weekend.

P.S. Is it too early to put the crimble decs up???

This is a bunny i made yestertday. It took me AGES! to make the spectacles...not sure i'd make them like that again. I do like the bunny though - i'm really trying to stick to my original illustrations so i can retain the constant link between doodles & 3D in the Little Things i Make.

I've been a busy bee this month making lots of my little things !!! I was asked to sell some of my work at the Macmillan Charity Tea Afternoon http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Home.aspx on Sunday which was lovely (despite the horrid weather). It was a great afternoon & it was splendid to see that people really liked my crazy little critters.

I have been asked to go back before Christmas to do another stall which means i can start making crimble decs!!! My favourite :) I'm also in the process of designing some greeting cards which i hope to get into shops in time for Christmas.

These are a few doodles inspired by the recent fox media coverage - ooh, and i watched Wes Anderson's 'Fantastic Mr. Fox' the other day and LOVED it!!! :) I love Britain's foxes - they are one of the last indigenous carnivores left on the British Isles. Despite the recent unfortunate occurrence, foxes usually keep themselves to themselves. We invaded their territory with our suburban sprawl. Foxes should be treated with respect. They are "wild animals" (although my doodles make them look cute as pie!)

This is our beeeautiful chilli plant which we have grown with tender love & care! We are both very proud of it. It isn't one of the Little Things i Make but it is a 'little thing we grew' :) (I think we may be becoming a little obsessed with it...)

I am off to Port Grimaud on the 25th for 2 weeks!!! I plan to take lots and lots of pictures as it's a really beautiful place. I will be taking my sketch book with me so i should have some bits to put up when i get back.

Had a really nice day today. The weather was grey but i still felt summery :) I went for a nice walk into town and stared longingly at all the pretty summer dresses in the shop windows. It seems flowers are very in...

Went to C&H fabrics and had a good old fuddle before buying Ry some elbow patches for his blue velvet jacket. I also picked up some gold safety pins - i had an urge to make little felt badges - watch this space.

Off to London on Thursday to see Pavement at Brixton Academy. Hopefully there will be enough time to visit a couple of galleries.
